An insight into the Indian Cement Industry - by Mr. Vijay Chandorkar
In India, the Core Industry is one of the high-growth industries which promise a bright future for the Managers –as per Mr. Vijay Chandorkar, a vertical specialist in Ultra tech Cement for the last 14 years. PROTON business school conducted a special session for understanding the working of Indian cement industry.
Mr Chandorkar shared his vast experience of the cement industry with Protons and threw light on the basic working & rhythm of the industry. He discussed the various technical aspects of the industry in India. The per capita consumption of cement in India is about 350 kg as compared to more than 1000 kg in the major countries of the world. India mainly uses Grade 53 cement, but now people are shifting from the original cement to the blended cement or RMC Cement. Industry includes only 6% of sale of concrete cement, whereas, the world average is around 80-85%. These facts hint at the bright upcoming future & the potential in Indian markets.
The session continued with discussion on needs & requirements of cement industry. One of the very basic need was skilled man-power. To cope up with this, their company provides special training on technical and communication skills to their employees. It was a great direction of opportunity for young future managers. While talking about the recent innovations in their companies, he added that the factories are well equipped with vacuum cleaners, dust collectors and other high technology devices to maintain a healthy work environment for everybody. The Protons took keen interest in the view on upcoming bright future of cement industry.
Finally, the session ended with a detailed Q&A round in which the speaker provided answers on various queries.
