Dilemma in ethical sales - a talk by Mr. Vikrant Pande

Working with honesty, ethics and upright principles when most of the competitors are not following the same, is not a kid’s job. The way out in the real world requires facing lots of challenges and commitments, and makes it important for fresh entrepreneurs to direct themselves using a set of ethics and principles, which can sustain their business in the long run.

To throw light on this issue, PROTON conducted a special session on ‘Dilemma in ethical sales’ by Mr. Vikrant Pande, Chief Executive Officer, Amsure Insurance. The session had a detailed orientation on the relevant problems in real market due to which one may adopt unethical way to reap profits, and the solutions for the same which could eventually lead to much higher profits in long term.

The speaker defined 'ethics' as- “knowing the difference between what you have a right to do and what is right to do”. The need of the hour in corporate world is to build trust in the mind of consumers; indeed, trust is the single most important building block on which lasting businesses are made.

The speaker used various live examples in the session, like Mr. Gundappa Vishwanath, who proved his credibility in test match between India & England (1979). The live examples gave a very important learning that creating trust & credibility is far more beneficial then just making money, because it will eventually help in long run.

The session was continued with discussion on differences and gains between –

  1. Short term v/s long term
  2. Getting a sale v/s getting a customer
  3. Transaction v/s relationship
  4. Getting business v/s building business

Finally, Mr. Pande accentuated on a very essential learning to Protons, i.e. - “Though building credibility is intangible and it cannot be measured in monetary terms, then too considering your ethics & principles above monetary benefits, will lead you to be a winning horse in long run.”
