‘Try not to be a man of success, but rather a man of value’ - Albert Einstein
Deep-rooted values, unending passion, a goal driven approach, courage to take risk, conviction and wisdom - These are the keys for a balanced life.
To learn firsthand the magic of these and more, PROTON invited global CEO trainers Mr. Roger Harrop (International speaker and business consultant), Mr. Brian Chernett (Founder of The Academy for Chief Executives) and Mr. Rakesh Bhargava (Founder and CEO of RKB consulting group) for a special session as a part of its Expert Guest Lecture Series.
It was an interactive question answer session, where Protons enquired about the various facets of leadership of CEOs and asked questions enthusiastically which were then answered at length by the guests.
Some of the questions were :
"What is the helicopter view and how does it help?"
According to the helicopter view, as a key leader of one’s organization it is important that you take some time out, step back from your business and review your strategy alongside with other business leaders who will help provide impetus for new ideas and inspiration.
Mr. Roger said that the absolute key for running a business is looking over in and to set a distance between self and business and also thinking about the positives. In addition to that he said that it is important to look at the bigger picture but at the same is also important to keep a check on the details.
"How to manage change?"
People are reluctant to change but if you tell them the benefits of change, and how can they accommodate according to change, they will certainly adapt to it. On this, Mr. Rakesh quoted an example that a newspaper of $4.5 is worth more than the whole life knowledge of an 18th century farmer and this is truly what change is all about.
According to Mr. Brian, the continuous improvement is the key to managing change. He stated that, “One views India as a potential market with lots of creative minds. But the perception of people of West about Indian products is synonymous to low quality products.” He said that there is tremendous creativity and hard work but implementation of this is necessary. One should have the ability to learn quickly from mistakes.
"How to balance business and spirituality?"
On this Mr. Brian said that Spirituality is looking after your people i.e. the employees, and how do you deal with them. Business is all about getting your work done from these employees. Therefore, both business and being spiritual is synonymous to each other. So the key is to strike the right balance between the two. Mr. Roger Harrop giving an insight on systematic business expansion said that, “For a systematic business expansion all you need is to check that your systems are in place and they are robust, as well as flexible along with a strong management team.”
All the three guests accentuated that products and services are designed according to the needs of the customer and to ensure that the customer has the entire right. Therefore it’s important to check whether the customers that are being targeted are willing to buy the products and if they are ready then it must be ensured that they have the ability to buy it.
In addition to that, the speakers gave golden rules to have a successful balanced life. These were
• Follow the values that you believe in
• Select the right mentor
• Have a belief in yourself and a conviction that you can do well
• Have a passion and strongly work towards achieving what you are passionate for
• Always live in present and do what you are good at
• Lead a goal oriented life and have written goals
The session concluded with the note on how to have a control over a difficult situation and move ahead to the next phase of life.
