PROTON's Global MDP IX

Protons learn the science of 'Mindfulness'

“Mindfulness can be summed up in two words: paying attention. Once you notice what you’re doing, you have the power to change it.”

It was a great opportunity for Protons to interact and listen to the views of Ms. Veronica Anne Chalmers (Satyam Vinya) in the 9th Global MDP organized at PROTON business school, Indore. Ms. Veronica is the Global head of ‘Training & Development’ at Result Coaching System in Australia.

The event began with lamp lighting ceremony. The Chief Mentor Mr. Sandeep Manudhane along with Prof. Kapil Dev Upadhya and Dean (Academics) Prof. Vinay Goyal extended floral welcome to the guest. Mr. Manudhane explained that the MDP is going to help everyone tackle the stresses of life. He drew a parallel between the rich and at times positively mysterious cultural & behavioural roots of Indian population as reflected in the surprisingly enlightening results of national elections (declared May 2009), and the fascination that the speaker of today's Global MDP had about India.

The eminent guest started the topic “Science and Practice of Mindfulness”. Ms. Veronica said that there is an ancient wisdom in India and that is why she loves coming to India.

She explained what mindfulness is - Mindfulness is intentional, non-judgmental awareness of the present moment. Hence mindfulness is the best tool to achieve them. She explained in detail the effects of mindfulness

• Reduction in blood pressure & cholesterol
• Increase in serotonin & dopamine
• Improved immune function
• Reduction in calcium loss
• Improved response time & reflexes
• Improved IQ and learning capabilities
• Decreases anxiety

Ms.Veronica also emphasized that meditation is one of the forms of mindfulness. Protons also had a practical exercise on mindfulness. Everyone was delighted! The speaker also showed a video which explained the functioning of neurological networks inside the brain.

According to her learnings, researches have proved that mindfulness helps in increasing serotonin, a chemical in the brain that is responsible for developing positive thoughts in human mind. It also enhances the learning ability as well as concentration ability of mind.

Finally Prof. Kapil Dev Upadhya extended a vote of thanks to the guest, and presented a memento.
