PROGRAMMES - Defining features
Responsibility as a professional strength
Sumantra Ghoshal, revered management guru, in his
breathtaking analysis of ‘what works in companies’ said that only
10% of managers have the right mix of energy and focus, that
drives them to take meaningful action, leading to winning
execution. This surely is not an encouraging number. And this
points to a huge need-gap. Management learning programmes must
focus on developing a sense of responsibility in the minds of
students rather than solely focusing on the tangible placement
related outcomes. They can be called successful only if specific
attitudinal improvements can be effected. Protons are trained
consciously into taking charge of what they do, and being fully
and finally responsible for their actions.
The key components of this teaching strategy are
Honesty and integrity Be reliable, have an image of being
‘trustworthy’
Taking ownership Quality of my work is my autograph
A kaizen mindset Improving every process on a day-to-day
basis is possible
Leading through initiative Do not wait for others to take
charge and lead the way
For all functional skills taught at PROTON business school - be it
marketing, finance, HRM, operations, systems, international
business - projects and assignments designed to develop a sense of
responsibility are a must. Leaders also need some chiselling!
